Iris Counselling COUNSELLING APPROACH

COUNSELLING APPROACH

At Iris Counselling, we take a holistic and integrated approach (tapping on concepts from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Existential Therapy, Motivational Interviewing and Solution-Focused Therapy), using proven, tried and tested techniques to help you with:

Eliminating the darkness by allowing light to shine through

When faced with major challenges, we hope for a miracle to free us from the captivity of our recurring maladaptive thoughts. However, reaching out for help is more often than not a more effective alternative. Through speaking in confidentiality with an attentive listener who is professionally trained, you will soon find your way out of family, financial, occupational, personal, physical health, psychological health, social and other issues that you may be facing.

Nipping issues in the bud

It is so much easier to clear any mental obstacle at its infancy stage through self-reflection or even actively participating in some motivational reading materials. A well-trained and experienced counsellor can guide you through this process over the course of a few sessions to gain some clarity as well as fresh perspective on the situation that you are facing.

Living life to its fullest – not only stuck in your day-to-day routine

On the outside, some of us seem to have arrived in life. We have a high-paying job, beautiful kids, frequent retreats, friendly neighbours and branded goods, and tick all the boxes to appear successful. That being said, our spirit is somehow often not alive; we feel we lack something which we just cannot pinpoint. What would you want to be remembered as? What is your legacy? What is the meaning in your life? Discussing existential questions with a trained counsellor could fire up your dormant engine and lead you to meaningful goals.

Addressing past experiences to shape a healthy future

It’s one thing to be able to function at school, a job and even socially but another to do so free of any mental hang-ups and disorders. Some of us might have been bullied in school or at workplace. Others might find that there is a lack of love in our life because we have a Father who was absent or a controlling Mother, unhealthy sibling rivalry, a partner or spouse who betrayed us, etc. Having closure from your past could start you on the journey to better things in life. You will find that very often, the first step to this is speaking with a counsellor whom you can trust.

Stopping maladaptive habits and thinking patterns in their tracks

It could be because of a recent illness or distant loss, or any situation where we might feel that we are constantly under a dark cloud. This can lead to secondary conditions such as insomnia, poor eating habits, drug abuse, alcoholism, and the likes. We might fear unknowns and feel lost, especially during uncertain times. Becoming aware of and changing maladaptive thinking patterns through talking to a counsellor could lead you to that very rainbow that you are searching for.

Providing a neutral listening ear

We very often bottle up our frustrations and mental states as we feel that there is no one to turn to. Those around us may be biased in their viewpoints and not be able to provide us with objective and constructive feedback. Speaking with a trained counsellor can provide an avenue to offload some of these issues and allow us to obtain new perspectives on long-standing issues.
